Social Media and Recruitment

Around 75% of people use Internet on a daily basis, especially social networks. With their appearance, Internet got another dimension. Social networks provide greater access to information and represent a key player in job searching. Not only can we use them to keep in touch with our friends and family, playing online games or entertainment, but also for employment.

Nowadays, traditional ways of hiring people have changed. In fact, many companies use the success of social networks to advertise their business, share news and find future employees. More and more job ads can be seen on Facebook or Twitter rather than on a company’s website.

There are many social networks which are extremely popular, such as Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. which we should use to our advantage. Our social network accounts aren’t a private thing anymore. Therefore, employers use them to check on their applicants and future employees to see who they really are outside of their CV or a job interview. On the other hand, we can use the information provided on social networks, as well. We can visit a company’s profile, learn about it, connect with their employees, check their ads, join groups, etc.

As previously mentioned, our social media accounts aren’t a private thing anymore. Thus, we should be careful what we put there and which things we share. If there are some things that you wouldn’t like to be seen, just remove them or make them private, because a certain percentage of employers won’t offer you a job if they see inappropriate photos, status or information shared. We should post things which will highlight our qualifications, skills and accomplishments. Make sure to keep your profiles updated and similar in content. It gives a very bad impression of us when we’re being dishonest about our skills or qualifications.

Don’t be afraid or feel uncomfortable to mingle on social networks. They’re a great source of valuable information that we should use. Take all of their advantages. Here are some tips how to make your LinkedIn profile stand out even more. Good luck.
